  • Montana Rescue Mission fired director Matt Lundgren after an internal investigation earlier this week—board member Eric Peterson said the decision was not linked to misconduct rumors—and the board will start a national search for a new leader while keeping services uninterrupted.  KXLF

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Ken Haines, a West Virginia retiree, opened HP2 Café in Butte on Sept. 9 after enjoying success with his Melrose businesses and a bonding trip with his sons inspired his next chapter. He also owns Butte Produce & Supply and plans to hire more workers—his head chef Reilly Penkal is praised for making quality dishes.  The Montana Standard

CULTURE NEWS

  • A Montana-made comedy, Cuisine De La 'Pocalypse, debuts today on Amazon Prime Video to buy or rent. The film—shot in Hamilton with local talent and featuring zombies, robots and taquitos—will have a red carpet event in Los Angeles at the end of October.  KXLF
  • Montana's own Chloe Gendrow will bring raw alt-pop to Butte's Covellite Theater on Friday, September 26th with folk musician Ella Rae Cole from Bozeman. Doors will open at 7 p.m.—the show will start at 8 p.m. and promise an intimate local music event.  KXTL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Montana Tech in Butte and the University of Montana in Missoula have been named to Princeton Review’s Best 391 Colleges for 2026 — a recognition based on reviews from over 170,000 students evaluating academics, campus life, and more. The honor places Montana schools among a select group recognized in the Best in the West list.  KXTL
  • Butte Central High Maroons will celebrate Homecoming 2025 with planned events aimed at boosting school spirit, and details on activities are to be shared soon plus the celebration is expected to engage both students and the local community.  The Montana Standard

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A federal judge granted a temporary order today after plaintiffs said an irrigation ditch's diversion of Clark Fork water hurt bull trout habitat—regulators will check if further steps are needed.  The Montana Standard
  • Wildlife officials set a trap with a rotisserie chicken bait on Friday morning in a southeast Butte neighborhood after a black bear was seen climbing a spruce tree and rummaging through trash—authorities plan to capture and move the bear to a rural area while advising residents to steer clear of nearby streets.  KXLF

FINANCE NEWS

  • Montanans are advised to keep only essential cards in their wallets to lessen the risk of identity theft and credit card fraud. Experts recommend using digital payment methods (for example, avoiding sensitive documents) to better protect personal information.  KXTL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gallagher questioned the DOC's homework on a possible women’s prison in Butte as the department seeks local input through a Request for Information—responses are due by Oct. 15. He said the plan needs clear details to address community needs.  The Montana Standard
