  • Today at 10 a.m., the annual Butte Cares/Harrington Pepsi Clothing Drive offers free winter gear — including hats, coats, gloves and more — and hot dogs for anyone in need at Butte Plaza Mall. Local businesses and residents helped collect donations for this community event.  KXTL
  • The 37th Thompson Family Food Drive begins today in Butte as residents and businesses leave nonperishable food and money donations on their front porches for volunteer pick-up. Organizers aim to collect 100,000 pounds of food (and $85,000) to support the Emergency Food Bank.  KXLF
  • Jim Killoy was honored as a Butte Local Heroes honoree for his deep knowledge of mining history. He generously shares his expertise to keep Butte’s legacy alive.  The Montana Standard

CULTURE NEWS

  • During the holidays, local families celebrate a longstanding tradition of baking peanut butter cookies, Montana’s favorite Christmas treat. The custom — which often features a Hershey Kiss in the center of each cookie — brings warmth to family gatherings.  KXTL

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • A survey of 118 locals shows that 63.5% set their home thermostats from 65 to 70° for comfort as snow falls ahead of winter’s start on Dec. 21. Many residents also use wood stoves to add extra warmth during the cold season.  KXTL

  • Butte is buzzing as Montana Tech’s undefeated Orediggers will play in a home playoff game tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Alumni Colosseum on Bob Green Field against the College of Idaho, and local fans are eager to celebrate the team’s success.  KXLF
  • Butte Central athletes begin their winter sports season this week with freshman basketball in Livingston Tuesday evening, a wrestling mixer at the Maroon Activities Center Thursday, and wrestling, swimming and varsity basketball matches Friday and Saturday in Whitehall, Frenchtown and Three Forks.  KXTL
