COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Big Sky on Waterford has been a local Christmas wonderland for 15 years as its magic elf, Carolyn Cornelius, adds a new tree daily and now holds a tree auction to support the Alzheimer’s Association. The public is invited to view the trees and bid on one of 16 selections on Dec. 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. KXLF
- ➤ A free clothing drive will take place on Saturday in Butte, sponsored by Butte Cares & Harrington Pepsi & Townsquare Media. The Montana Standard
- ➤ Butte Christmas Stroll kicks off today at 5:15 p.m. at the courthouse rotunda, with a tree lighting, Santa visit and parade just before 7. Several uptown businesses (shop local) will remain open for the event. KXLF
- ➤ Butte’s Thompson Family Food Drive returns for its 37th year tomorrow, Dec. 6, when about 750 volunteers from local groups including firefighting + rescue teams will collect food from residents between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to support the Emergency Food Bank amid rising need after changes to SNAP benefits. - ➤ A weekly updated list of holiday bazaars offers Butte residents a guide to seasonal shopping events by listing dates and locations. The Montana Standard
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Retired Lt. Col. Ed Saunders of Billings shared a list of Montanans killed in the Dec. 7 Pearl Harbor attack, noting most served on the USS Arizona and that a government review later attributed the attack's impact to hubris. KXTL
- ➤ The Butte Elks Lodge will host Twistmas in December as an annual holiday fundraiser with irreverent humor and twisted Christmas themes, supporting local community programs. The Montana Standard
- ➤ Bridger Historical Society and Fish, Wildlife & Parks plan to partially preserve a historic sod-roofed log cabin, granary, and outbuilding homesteaded by Frances and Emma Jennings in the late 1800s. The proposal is under review for potential preservation. The Montana Standard
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Butte schools operated normally Thursday after officials dismissed a social media threat as not credible. Butte High School and other schools resumed classes without interruption (no extra security measures were needed). MontanaRightNow
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest announced planned prescribed burns near Butte and in other parts of the state’s largest national forest by acreage. Burns are scheduled in the Butte Ranger District to manage forest conditions. The Montana Standard
