COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Sunrise Kiwanis Club in Butte donated nearly a ton of potatoes to West, Kennedy and Emerson elementary schools + the food will be given to parents at upcoming parent-teacher conferences to help families as SNAP benefits and food bank supplies decline.  KXLF
  • On Halloween night, pranksters hoisted Sinclair Gas Station’s 270-pound green dinosaur to the top of the M trail, and Saturday morning local rescuers led by the Huntley family retrieved it using straps—guiding the mascot safely home as hikers cheered.  KXLF
  • Today the Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation donated $50,000 to the Butte Emergency Food Bank after Butte declared an emergency in response to federal SNAP cuts during the government shutdown. Officials from Montana Resources delivered the grant — supporting the food bank as it handled an average of 10 new clients each day.  KXLF

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Tractor Supply will open its new Butte store with a ribbon-cutting planned for Saturday — the company reported operating 2,364 Tractor Supply stores and 206 Petsense outlets as of Sept. 27. Local customers can expect more retail options from the expanding chain.  The Montana Standard

CULTURE NEWS

  • Butte’s Daughters of Norway remain a respected local group that has maintained Norwegian traditions and cultural heritage—standing as a key part of the town’s historic fabric.  The Montana Standard
  • A weekend of Celtic music will take place at Covellite Theater in Butte as Reverie Road’s intimate concert is scheduled for Saturday and a series of Irish fiddling, flute, and Ceili dance workshops will be held on Sunday—offering locals a chance to enjoy traditional Irish art and hands-on learning.  KXTL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Montana Commissioner James Brown warned insurers today not to block Medicare Advantage plan access for seniors by using tactics like removing enrollment forms and cutting off agent commissions — his office said it will act if companies continue these practices. He noted the move aims to protect consumers from unfair and potentially illegal actions.  KXTL

HEALTH NEWS

  • Butte SPIRIT Homes expanded its addiction recovery program by purchasing a new residence in October that will open in December — the facility will add eight beds for men in transitional recovery to meet rising demand.  MontanaRightNow

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • New data from MovingPlace shows that Montana ranks 12th in the nation for lemon homes — over half of these houses may need foundational repairs. Homebuyers should note that even charming houses with mountain views can hide costly issues like plumbing, window failures and water damage.  KXTL
