COMMUNITY NEWS

  • U.S. Army Pvt. Harry David Bordner from Butte, who was a Japanese prisoner of war in World War II, had his remains officially identified 83 years after his death. The new finding gives closure to a long-lost story—affirming his service and honoring his record.  The Montana Standard
  • Covellite Theater at 215 W. Broadway hosted a free screening of The Addams Family with free popcorn on Wednesday. It will feature Uptown Comedy tonight with doors opening at 7:30 p.m.—a Halloween-themed karaoke event is set for Friday.  KXTL
  • Butte YMCA will host a Country Hoedown fundraiser with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. and tickets costing $20 each or $35 for two.  The Montana Standard

CULTURE NEWS

  • Butte Daughters of Norway are preparing to make lefse for their holiday bake sale which will begin on Nov. 8—this tradition has been passed down for decades using over 350 pounds of potatoes and a family heirloom lefse roller. The bake sale promotes a long-practiced Norwegian custom in the community.  KXLF
  • Murdoch's Ranch and Home Supply, Intermountain Hospital and the Mother Lode Theatre will host a free showing of 'Broke'—starring Wyatt Russell, Auden Thorton and Dennis Quaid at 7 p.m. today in Butte.  The Montana Standard
  • Buffalo Traffic Jam, a band formed by Montana State University alums, drew national attention with its debut EP and record deal after a viral success at Under the Big Sky Festival this summer — the group will release its new Take Me Home EP on October 24 and is touring to support it.  KXTL
  • The historic Dumas Brothel in Butte, known for eerie ghost sightings and legends of violent acts, is set to feature on Halloween tours this season—drawing local interest for its unique haunted past.   • Butte-Silver Bow Chief Executive J.P. Gallagher said the county can file a lawsuit within six years over the EPA appeal on the cancellation of a $20M grant for a local center, and he called the ruling deeply disappointing.  The Montana Standard
  • State officials are searching for a site for a new $246 million women's prison in Butte that would add 400 beds to the state system. Butte’s Chief Executive J.P. Gallagher said residents oppose the project due to concerns over the city's sewer system, housing market, and staffing shortages—officials have requested local feedback to address these issues.  MontanaRightNow
