ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, Montana will face a winter with cold snaps, big storms, and mild stretches in most areas while western regions will see above-normal precipitation—leading to heavier snowfall in Bozeman, Missoula, and Whitefish. Residents should prepare for waves of snow and prolonged cold in late November, early December, and early February.  KXTL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Montana Fish and Wildlife Commission approved new wolf hunting and trapping rules for the 2025/2026 season, setting a statewide quota of 452 wolves with limits of 15 per method—five of which must come from Regions 1 and 2. Hunters were required to purchase a separate license for every wolf taken while trappers can temporarily retain a live wolf for radio collaring.  KXTL

HEALTH NEWS

  • Over $300,000 in grant funds are available to support projects that reduce opioid harm in Butte. The Butte-Silver Bow Health Department said the funding comes from the Montana Opioid Abatement Trust — grant applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on September 8.  MontanaRightNow
  • Southwest Montana Community Health Center earned three national Community Health Quality Recognition awards — presented by the Health Resources and Services Administration — for its quality community health services that strengthen the region’s care network.  The Montana Standard

SPORTS NEWS

  • Butte’s Stodden Park will host the Copper Cup pickleball tournament this weekend — event organizers welcome adult players of all skill levels from beginners to seasoned competitors.  The Montana Standard
  • The Raiders released Tommy Mellott from the official roster for the 2025 season—local fans in Butte now hope the former Montana State quarterback will join the practice squad if he clears waivers.  KXTL
