Butte Community Farm donated 225 lbs of fresh produce in July to boost local access to nutritious crops—an effort that expands community knowledge of the area’s food system.
NorthWestern Energy donated $10,000 to the Butte Family YMCA to help replace the boiler at the Simperman Corette Aquatic Center (a key part of the facility restoration).
🎭 Culture
An aerial arts class at the Elks Lodge in Uptown Butte offers children and adults circus training to build confidence and aid recovery; instructor Raven Summer with 20 years’ experience will host open houses Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. + a tea party Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m.
🌲 Environment
Air crews are battling the fast-growing Sand Creek Wildfire, which has burned more than 19,000 acres, damaged the Maverick Mountain Ski Area chairlift, and forced evacuations north of Billings Creek.
A community meeting is set Wednesday (6 p.m.) at Jackson Elementary School and Thursday (6 p.m.) at Wise River Community Center.
FWP reported two black bear cubs were spotted at Thompson Park, a few miles south of Butte, as hyperphagia season begins.
Hikers and bikers should take precautions (carry bear spray and make noise) to avoid close encounters.
