  • On Thursday, the Butte-Silver Bow Fair at the Civic Center offered 4-H animal shows, a livestock market, and live music from BMX-Butte Music Experience & High Ore Road, while uptown Music on Main featured the local duo Berkeley Pits with food vendors and artisans.  KXTL
  • Ridge Waters Waterpark in Butte closed indefinitely after a thunderstorm on July 31 caused a power surge that made its control panel malfunction—officials said the system cannot monitor safe chlorine levels. Parks and recreation director Shawn Fredrickson said the park will reopen before the season ends when replacement parts arrive from an out-of-state distributor.  MontanaRightNow

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Late Tuesday, NorthWestern Energy announced it signed a letter of intent to supply up to 1,000 megawatts to a proposed AI data center by Quantica Infrastructure that could become Montana’s largest — powering 800,000 homes in total. The deal calls for an initial 500 megawatts with expansion to 1,000 megawatts by 2030 and has raised questions about grid impacts and potential cost shifts to existing customers.  The Montana Standard

  • Gollette appeared before a Butte judge on an attempted murder charge+ the court will decide the next steps in his case.  The Montana Standard

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Montana lawmakers introduced House Bill 145 that will raise the nonresident hunting fee from $15 to $100, a 566% increase that could add over $7 million if 85,000 out-of-state fees are collected. The bill, drafted by Reps. Gary Parry, Eric Tilleman, and Curtis Cochran + is now with the Fish, Wildlife and Parks committee as lawmakers decide its impact on hunters.  KXTL
  • Heier wants to change local rules so Butte residents can raise backyard chickens in smaller spaces — she argues her nine hens, which include Lucille and Carole, are sustainable pets. She presented her proposal to the Board of Animal Services, which will review it in a work session on August 5 and share results with the public in September.  KXLF
