COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Butte Tin will celebrate its 100th anniversary with a block party on Saturday, June 21 from 6 to 10:30 at 28 E. Galena, featuring live music, food trucks, and face painting for kids.  KXTL
  • At Saturday’s Butte Wings & Wheels event at Bert Mooney Airport, officials will honor WWII fighter pilot 2nd Lt. Holsey C. Johnson—who died in a 1945 training crash—by displaying a restored P-51D Mustang named Orphan Girl as a tribute to his service and legacy. His nephew Scott Johnson and other community members will share stories of his lifelong inspiration.  The Montana Standard
  • A granite bench honoring late Robert Pavlovich was unveiled outside the Southwest Montana Veterans Home in Butte on June 5th to mark his key role in getting the facility built. His family and friends recalled his 30 years of hard work and noted that he also lived at the home until he passed at 95—keeping his legacy alive in the community.  KXLF

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents and several commissioners in Butte opposed a proposed women's prison on Wednesday night, saying it would transform the city into a 'prison town' and burden local services. In response, commissioners sent a letter to the Montana Department of Corrections—who said no decision has been made and that other sites are also being considered—to demand more transparency and local input.  The Montana Standard

HEALTH NEWS

  • Montana health officials reported that a new COVID variant, NB.1.8.1, is quietly spreading and can allow infected people to spread the virus before they feel sick. They advise Montanans to get tested if they experience symptoms like dry cough, fever, congestion, or unusual fatigue.  KXTL
