COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Saturday (May 31), the Silver Bow Kiwanis will host their 26th annual Bicycle Rodeo at the Butte Civic Center parking lot from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., where families will get free bike inspections, safety lessons, helmets, and pizza.  KXTL
  • Colt Anderson announced his Dream Big Montana Experience will be held June 26 and 27 in Butte; Thursday will feature a Family Fun Area in Uptown Butte with FMX shows by Keith Sayers, Levi Blom and Travis Denning while Friday will host the UPTOP Skills Camp at Naranche Stadium with registration opening June 2. The event will close Friday evening with a cocktail party and auction at Metals Sports Bar and Grill.  KXTL

BUSINESS NEWS

  • NorthWestern Energy raised electricity prices for Montana customers by 16.87% on May 23 - adding about $204 to bills a year - using a little-known Montana law without prior approval. The Public Service Commission will review the new rates starting June 9 - the process may lead to refunds if final rates are set lower - and will make a final decision later.  The Montana Standard

  • Butte prosecutors said Larry Jason White pleaded not guilty to charges of holding police officers at bay and is free on specific release conditions (further court dates have yet to be set).  The Montana Standard

CULTURE NEWS

  • The band Growling Old Men will perform on June 11—local fans can expect a lively music show at the event.  The Montana Standard

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Butte High seniors received a final lesson from local attorney Cathy Tutty as they prepare to graduate later this week. She shared her real-life experience prosecuting a high-profile heroin case—showing students that many career paths are possible.  KXLF
  • On May 29, Butte High held its annual commencement ceremony at the Butte Civic Center, graduating 278 seniors. Families and community members celebrated the milestone—marking a fresh start for the graduates.  The Montana Standard

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Crews from Butte’s Department of Transportation blasted a giant boulder off I-90 near Homestake Pass yesterday using a Boulder Buster technique—drilling holes then setting off controlled explosions—and repeated blasts reduced the rock to pieces small enough to be removed from the highway. Traffic was briefly blocked during the blasts as the crew managed the situation.  KXLF
