COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A proposed carwash in Chinatown, approved by the Historic Preservation Commission on May 5, has sparked concerns from the Mai Wah Society about the approval process (local activists say the Mercury Street lot is historically important after 65,000 artifacts were found in 2008) as they urge more transparency.  KXLF

CULTURE NEWS

  • Starting Memorial Day, locals can board a replica streetcar to explore Butte’s mining and labor history (the special Spooks and Spirits tour will offer spooky stops later this summer) during Trolley Tours that begin and end at the Chamber of Commerce at 1000 George St.  KXTL
  • On May 31, KPop Guardians will perform in Butte with shows at 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. The live production features synchronized dance routines, authentic choreography — vibrant costumes and dramatic lighting that bring the global K-pop phenomenon to life.  KXTL
  • Tickets are on sale for the Miss Montana competition at Mother Lode Theatre where delegates from across Montana will showcase their talents and community impact. The event will take place soon.  The Montana Standard

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Butte-Silver Bow Public Library hosts Teen Zone clubs for teens from 4 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday — sessions held at 226 W. Broadway St that provide a fun space for after-school activities.  The Montana Standard

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bridge repair projects are underway in Butte as the Montana Department of Transport reconstructs the Centennial bridge and installs a new deck on Burlington Avenue - Shields will close briefly in June. More than a dozen repairs are planned this summer from Lima to Livingston.  KXLF

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Copper City Queens of Butte will face the Big Hole Brawlers from Teton Valley at the Butte Civic Center on Saturday, May 30. The roller derby bout will offer a chance for local sports fans to cheer on the teams.  The Montana Standard
