  • Butte parents can attend a free child safety seat clinic today at Uptown Fire Station from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. to learn correct installation—available on a first-come, first-served basis to help reduce injury risks.  KXTL

CULTURE NEWS

  • Butte is set to welcome 75 Irish delegates and community members from Ireland — they will arrive today at 9:00 a.m. at the Courthouse Rotunda — as part of a cultural exchange program.  MontanaRightNow
  • Memorial Day will honor those who died in military service and differs from Veterans Day that recognizes all who served—local traditions include visiting Mountain View Cemetery and observing a National Moment of Remembrance at 3:00 p.m. Butte residents will use this day to quietly express gratitude for the freedoms preserved.  KXTL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mariah's Challenge is a local scholarship program that began after a tragic drunk driving death in 2007 and reached several milestones in 2025 — the program will award scholarships to help Butte youth succeed.  MontanaRightNow
  • Montana Tech announced that Tammy Burke will serve as dean of Highlands College starting June 1, succeeding retiring Dean Karen VanDaveer.   • Governor Gianforte vetoed House Bill 547 as he said it would create instability in rural fire districts—local leaders like Senator Derek Harvey expressed disappointment and hope to address fire service control before the 2027 session.  KXLF
  • At a Monday meeting in Deer Lodge, ranchers expressed concern that Montana Fish, Wildlife — and the CSKT — might call on junior water rights when river flows drop below requested levels.   • The Butte VA Clinic will be renamed Friday to honor Pearl Harbor veteran Charlie Dowd + the last Montana-born survivor who earned two Bronze Star medals during his Navy service.   • Montana has faced a growing homelessness crisis with cities introducing plans to secure permanent housing. In Missoula, the City Council voted on May 19 on the 'On Our Way Home' plan—which was developed with input from people with firsthand experience—to launch pilot programs this summer that aim to make homelessness rare, brief, and non-recurring.  KXTL
