  • United Way of Butte & Anaconda will host its annual Day of Caring at Kiwanis Sunshine Camp on June 27th, inviting volunteers to pull weeds, paint, and repair equipment so local kids can enjoy a well-maintained summer retreat.  KXTL

CRIME NEWS

  • Three Montana Army National Guard guardsmen landed a Black Hawk on a private ranch in Sweet Grass County earlier this month to allegedly grab elk antlers during a training flight — trespassing charges have now been filed as authorities investigate the incident.  KXTL

  • Butte Archives is hosting a summer exhibit celebrating Butte Elks Lodge #240 that traces the history of a 62-foot-tall elk built in July 1916 for a national convention that drew over 30,000 people—featuring a smaller elk whose five-day construction honors the club’s legacy.  KXLF
  • Butte residents will see the Grand Kyiv Ballet perform Sleeping Beauty at the Mother Lode Theater on Friday, May 23 at 7 p.m. The ballet features Tchaikovsky’s music, elegant choreography, and lavish costumes — a rare arts event in Butte — that brings this timeless fairy tale to life.  KXTL

  • Montanans are facing rising gas prices as Memorial Day Weekend nears with heavy travel expected. AAA reports prices average 3.18 per gallon, with rates as low as 2.91 in Dawson County and as high as 3.38 in Glacier County — showing clear regional differences.  KXTL

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Panelists met Wednesday in Deer Lodge to discuss the 90% drop in brown trout in the upper Clark Fork River and examine how factors like water quality and the river cleanup—such as the removal of riparian vegetation—may have harmed fish survival.   • Montanans are urged to check their freezers after more than 17,800 cartons of ice cream and frozen yogurt were recalled nationwide for potential plastic contamination—Wells Enterprises issued the voluntary recall on April 25 and the products include 22 flavors in 3-gallon tubs distributed to 103 service centers.  KXTL
