- ➤ Butte Elks Lodge at 206 W. Galena is hosting a busy Mother’s Day weekend that begins Friday with a line dancing lesson from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and live music, continues Saturday with a Singo event featuring a 50/50, silent auction and full bar for those 18 and older, and ends Sunday with a breakfast from 9 a.m. to noon and Funday Bingo at 1 p.m. — events designed to bring the community together. - ➤ Organizers say the Montana Folk Festival will take place from July 11 to 13 and needs over 900 volunteers to help with tasks like ticket sales and backstage hospitality— a mix of young and experienced helpers will support the event. The festival, now in its 16th year, will celebrate Butte's food, crafts and music and aims to keep the event free for everyone. MontanaRightNow

- ➤ Montana Technological University announced on Wednesday that Dr. Johnny MacLean is its 13th Chancellor and will begin his role on June 1; he currently serves as Provost at the University of Montana Western + he aims to strengthen STEM programs for students in Butte. KXLF

- ➤ MDOT attempted to break a garbage truck—sized boulder at Homestake Pass with mechanical methods but will hire a contractor to drill and blast it off I‑90 as officials plan to close all four lanes briefly for safety while urging motorists to slow down. KXLF
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ On May 1, the Leapfrog Group reported that one Montana hospital received a D for safety due to a high rate of surgical infections — the report compared scores for nine hospitals and noted that several earned A ratings. KXTL
- ➤ On Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Mental Health and Wellness Fair will be held at the Butte Civic Center Annex to offer free mental health resources and family-friendly activities.
