COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Butte first responders have been training high school sophomores in hands-only CPR for four years and say the program is already saving lives—students practice delivering 100 to 120 chest compressions per minute to classic rock beats to boost their emergency skills.  KXLF
  • The Munchies off Main Food Truck Festival will take place this Saturday on East Galena Street in front of Collective Elevation, starting at 11 a.m. and featuring food from local vendors as well as live entertainment by Fuzzy B. Morris from 1 to 4 p.m.—organizers expect a bigger event than last spring.  KXTL
  • On Saturday, May 3, Butte SPIRIT Homes will host a fundraiser at the Butte Elks Lodge with musical bingo featuring Singo and a world record kettlebell lifting attempt by Ray Hibness to support transitional housing for those in early recovery from addiction. The event will also include a 50/50 raffle and silent auction—adding extra fun while raising funds for this local cause.  KXTL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Montana Legislature passed the STARS Act — a $100 million education bill to raise starting teacher pay and ease the teacher shortage — and the measure gives districts extra funds when entry-level wages match average pay while it awaits Governor Gianforte’s signature.  KXTL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Montanans are closer to income tax relief as House Speaker Brandon Ler said he talked with the governor about signing House Bill 337. The bill raises the income threshold for the higher tax rate—cutting the top rate from 5.9% to 5.65%—and doubles the earned income tax credit from 10% to 20% for working families.  KXTL
  • Butte-Silver Bow's government study commission interviewed department heads and heard an expert from Montana State University on April 23rd as it examined whether an appointed city manager or elected chief executive would best serve local government. The commission will hold listening sessions every Monday at 5 p.m. in May and June at the courthouse — inviting public input — and will recommend a government structure to voters in November 2026.  KXLF

SPORTS NEWS

  • Montanans ranked the most popular NHL teams and found the Vegas Golden Knights became the top favorite because their playoff run and TV deal boosted support. The ranking also showed that teams like the Avalanche, Flames, Rangers, and Capitals maintained strong followings in the state.  KXTL
