- ➤ Residents celebrated 406 Day yesterday, showing Montana pride in the single area code even as experts warn it may be exhausted by 2032 (which could force a change). The Public Service Commission has asked Qwest to analyze ways to delay adding a second code. KXLF
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Due to a shortage of pennies, Montana businesses now round cash transactions to the nearest nickel. The rounding applies only to cash payments & does not change prices as pennies remain legal tender despite being less available. KXTL
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Covellite International Film Festival opens this Thursday at The Covellite at 215 W. Broadway in Uptown Butte. It began when stranded filmmakers discovered the local creative spark and now features films celebrating honesty, resilience and the everyman experience (reflecting the town’s mining heritage). KXTL
- ➤ The Montana Folk Festival announced its first seven performers on Monday (April 6) and the concert in Butte is scheduled for July 10 to 12. More details on additional acts are expected as the festival nears. The Montana Standard
- ➤ Legendary band Chicago will perform at First Interstate Arena at MetraPark in Billings on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2026, marking their first visit to Montana in over fifty years; tickets go on sale Friday, Apr. 10 at 10:00 a.m. KXTL
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Local homeowner Lisa Reynolds found in December that her USAA home insurance premium surged from about $2,900 to over $20,000 for her 119-year-old Laurel home. She switched to State Farm in February (receiving an $11,000 refund) and urges neighbors to shop around to avoid similar spikes. KXLF
