COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Butte Rescue Mission plans to open the new Center of Hope in a transformed 1900 warehouse with a $300,000 donation from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The center, part of a $3 million project, will be fully operational by late March for vulnerable residents.  KXLF
  • Butte women joined Vietnamese Buddhist monks on a 2,300-mile peace walk in Richmond, VA to promote daily peaceful living. The group (including Bridgett Petriz, Celeste Johnston and Tessi Preston) said the experience inspires a personal practice of writing down peace goals.  KXLF

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Saturday, March 7, 2026, the Spirit of Columbia Gardens Carousel hosts 'Everybody is Irish on St. Pat’s Day' at 3105 Utah Street in Stodden Park. The fundraiser (featuring live music, games, rides and dinner at 6:30 p.m.) supports a cherished local landmark.  KXTL
  • Butte Archives unveiled the Romance of Butte exhibit, featuring tender local love stories (inspired by a 1920 silent film by The Anaconda Standard) that highlight the city’s cherished past.  The Montana Standard
  • Country star Dierks Bentley will perform live with support acts (Mountain Grass Unit and Cole Goodwin) at KettleHouse Amphitheater on Thursday, June 25. Tickets go on sale Friday, February 20 at 10:00 a.m., and the outdoor venue by the Blackfoot River offers scenic mountain views.  KXTL
  • The Archives auditorium will host a screening of the 1920 silent film A Romance of Butte on Thursday, Feb. 26 at 6 p.m., offering locals a chance to experience a piece of our heritage.  The Montana Standard

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Department of Commerce imposed a 132.83% tariff on Russian palladium imports Tuesday, a move expected to aid the reopening of Montana’s largest mine. Stillwater officials said they are planning long-term cost adjustments to resume full operations and may bring nearly 700 laid-off workers back — boosting the local economy.  KXLF

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fourth through eighth-grade students competed at East Middle School in the Butte-Silver Bow County Spelling Bee on Thursday, Feb. 12 – 66 young spellers showcased their skills and earned community recognition.  The Montana Standard

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Montana DEQ is asking for public input on SBM Montana's mineral exploration project near Butte that involves 53 drill holes and a new underground shaft, with comments accepted through March 2 - the project focuses solely on exploration for future mining potential.  KXLF

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A local group acquired Hotel Deer Lodge, closed since the late 1980s due to neglect and roof damage, and now plans to work toward its restoration for community use.  The Montana Standard
