BUSINESS NEWS

  • Sabey Data Corp., based in Tukwila, plans to build a massive data center on 606 acres of county-owned land in Butte as part of the Montana Connections Development Business project; the initiative is expected to boost local tech opportunities.  The Montana Standard

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The inaugural Montana Mining Day will be held on Feb. 9 as the Montana Mining Association honors the work of mines, miners + related businesses that keep the industry strong.  The Montana Standard
  • A recent study shows that in Montana a single income struggles to meet basic living costs, with earnings of about $92,800 for one adult and nearly $235,000 for a family of four (based on current estimates). Many local families find it challenging to support a stay-at-home parent amid rising expenses.  KXTL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • East Middle School is hosting the Butte-Silver Bow County Spelling Bee on Thursday, Feb. 12 at 2 p.m. in its auditorium (66 spellers will compete for first place).  The Montana Standard
  • Students at West Elementary in Butte are building personal libraries with 1,470 free books provided by the Scripps Howard Fund's book fair; each of the 490 students picks three books (an opportunity for home reading) to enjoy a range of genres, including sports titles that interest fifth-grader Conner.  KXLF

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Montana Department of Environmental Quality signed an administrative consent order on Feb.-6 with Montana Resources after a water backflow incident last summer in Butte. The order requires a $1.2-million payment to upgrade backflow prevention and calls for further steps for a potable water system at the mine property.  MontanaRightNow

SPORTS NEWS

  • Montana Tech swept Dickinson State on Friday at Valley Bank Arena with the women's team winning 79-50 and the men's team winning 67-48 (new signage and a scoreboard were revealed). The Orediggers will host Bismarck State today with the women at 5pm and the men at 7pm.  KXTL
